Post Injury Training in Wimbledon

Short answer: Post injury training is the bridge between physio and full return to activity. Strength Lab LDN at 407 Durnsford Rd, SW19 8EE offers structured strength-based post injury programmes led by qualified S&C coaches. Available in-person, online, or hybrid.

What is post injury training?

Physio gets you healed. Post injury training gets you back to fully functional.

Most injuries leave lasting weakness in the muscles, tendons, and movement patterns around the injured area – even when the pain has gone. Without addressing that, you’re at high risk of re-injury and often left with a “weak spot” that limits what you can do.

Post injury training rebuilds the strength, power, movement quality, and confidence you had before the injury – and often better than before.

Who is post injury training for?

  • Anyone recovering from a specific injury (sport, work, or otherwise)
  • People post-surgery who’ve been discharged from physio but don’t feel fully back
  • Runners returning from injury who want to avoid the same issue recurring
  • Sportspeople rebuilding after time off
  • Anyone with old injuries that never fully resolved – the “weak knee,” “dodgy shoulder,” “bad back”
  • Clients cleared by physio for loaded exercise but not sure how to progress safely

Areas we work with

Knees

ACL rehab, patella tendinopathy, meniscus, arthritis, running knee, old sports injuries. See our knee rehab guide.

Hips

Hip impingement, labral repair recovery, hip replacement rehab, glute weakness post-injury.

Shoulders

Rotator cuff, post-dislocation, shoulder surgery recovery, chronic instability.

Backs

Lower back pain, disc issues cleared for loaded work, returning to lifting after time off.

Ankles / feet

Achilles tendinopathy, ankle sprains, post-fracture recovery.

Old sports injuries

Historic issues that never fully resolved and now hold you back from training or sport.

How post injury training differs from normal training

Assessment
Focus on asymmetries, weak links, and movement compensations – not just general capacity.
Programming
Progressive loading specific to the injured area. Slower start, calculated build-up.
Exercise selection
Chosen for both strength gain and tissue tolerance rebuild.
Pain monitoring
Structured approach to pain during and after sessions. Not pain-avoidance, not pain-through.
Return-to-activity testing
Objective testing before returning to sport, running, or high-intensity training.

Working with physio

Post injury training isn’t a replacement for physiotherapy – the two work together.

Physio handles the medical side: swelling, range of motion, gait, tissue healing, and clearance for loaded exercise. S&C-led post injury training picks up from there, rebuilding strength and function.

If you already have a physio, we’re happy to coordinate and share programmes. If you don’t, we can recommend physios in the Wimbledon area.
